Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds and supports the muscles, bones, and organs in your body. Imagine it as a thin, stretchy fabric or web that wraps around everything inside you, helping to keep everything in place. However, things can go wrong, resulting in pain and discomfort!
Distortions can occur in the fascia due to abnormal stresses or strains. This can result in fascia being twisted, wrinkled, pushed out or in, or just plain stuck.
Model: There is a systematic approach to identifying and getting rid of these distortions. It is a model to explain why and how something happens and how to fix it. A model, in this sense, is like a drawing that helps to understand how something works. Imagine trying to explain how a car works: instead of describing every tiny part, you would show a simple picture with the engine, wheels, and steering wheel, and explain how they all connect and work together. A model does the same thing for ideas or processes, making it easier to see and understand the big picture.
Thus, we have the Fascial Distortion Model (FDM). It is used to assess and deal with musculoskeletal injuries and pain. FDM is based on the idea that the body's fascia can become distorted in specific ways, leading to pain and dysfunction.
It works extremely well and fast on recent strains, repetitive stress injuries, tendonitis, and so on. However, issues that have been present for a longer time take quite a bit longer to fix.
Note: This method is used a lot in the sports world by major teams. Dr. Greg is certified and has advanced training in this method and mostly uses it to deal with aches and pains on the job
