Note: I will be going over why dealing with trigger points in muscles works. It is part of manual therapy.
A trigger point is a sensitive spot in a muscle that feels like a tight knot or band. These points can be painful when pressed and can cause referred pain, meaning pain felt in a different part of the body. Trigger points form when muscles are overused, stressed, or injured, leading to the development of tiny contractions or spasms in the muscle fibers. These points can reduce muscle flexibility and strength, causing discomfort and limiting movement. Trigger points are often associated with the accumulation of waste products, including lactic acid, within muscle tissues. When a muscle is overused, stressed, or injured, it can lead to poor blood circulation in specific areas. This reduced blood flow means that the muscle isn't receiving enough oxygen and nutrients while also not efficiently removing waste products like lactic acid.
Trigger point therapy aims to release these tight spots to alleviate pain and improve muscle function. It is a type of manual therapy that involves applying pressure to these points to relieve tension and reduce pain. The pressure applied during trigger point therapy helps to release these tight spots, improve blood flow, flush out accumulated waste products, and bring in fresh oxygen and nutrients to aid in muscle relaxation and healing. This helps improve muscle function, increase circulation, and promote healing.
