After lifting those heavy boxes, suddenly your back feels like someone took a bat to it. You wish you could stay injury free. What can YOU do to reduce the possibility of injuries?
Eat better! Cut out the processed and refined foods and reduce the sugars. Eat good food that is closest to the source. Generally, it’s better to eat a raw apple than to eat apple sauce or apple pie. Also, don’t forget to stay hydrated-drink enough water through the day. What you put into your body has a huge impact on how your body deals with abnormal physical stresses to it.
Exercise! Start exercising in what you like to do. Could be hiking, running, playing a sport, or going to the gym. A variety of exercises is always good because the body is used in different ways. Also, don’t forget as we age we tend to lose muscle mass and strength so add a good strengthening program to your overall exercises.
Relax! Take time to de-stress.
Learn the proper ways to do certain physical actions and practice them until you naturally do them the proper way. Example: Lifting correctly in a variety of situations.
Warm up and loosen up before engaging in physical activities
Take short micro breaks throughout the day to reset your body.
Just doing those should make a huge difference in preventing injuries!
Note: Consult with your doctor before making dietary or exercise changes.
